Proform 810 TR Treadmill Review

As far as inexpensive treadmills are concerned, ProForm is usually the manufacturer who is truly able to make machines in the sub $1000 category which really appear to take value to an extreme. An Icon brand which shares a number of similarities with other Icon machines, ProForm often ends up being a better value because its prices seem to the lowest of the Icon brands and other Icon machines almost identical to the 810TR are priced hundreds more.

This sense of value is something that makes the Proform 810 TR treadmill truly enjoyable. Features are great, but through in a sense of value and purchasing a treadmill instead of going to the treadmill to run on one become a true option.

The IFIT program is used extremely well on this machine, there are 20 customizable inbuilt Ifit personal trainer style workouts on this machine. Add to that the marathon, half marathon, 5K and 10K modes and you have one feature filled $700 machine. Of course an ipod dock is inckuded which can also make use of the speaker system which is essential the Ifit’s personal trainer workout which provides vocal cues and motivational music to increase the effectiveness of your workout.

A Lot For The Price

If this machine is purchased as a running treadmill for a taller person that person will most likely be disappointed. The functionality of the 810TR is exceptional and simple. You really get an idea of function first and formost, then value, then styling. In more expensive brands asthetics become important, in a $700 machine a lack of attention paid to asthetics means there was more room for attention to be paid to making sure the machine works great.

The 2.25 hp motor is a tad weak in all honesty and is a real draw back on a machine that has a lot to offer. A 55″ deck is obviously not ideal and precludes the 810TR from really serving the role of a quality running treadmill for taller users. At high speeds the motors limited capability because evident as the motor begins to run louder, hotter, becomes less smooth, especially as the machine ages.

Combine improved materials with an increasing list of features on ProForm machine and there are the making of ever improving machines. The 810 TR obviously does not stand out among treadmills in general, but at its price it is a welcomed surprise.

Weak Motor, Weak Warranty, And An Otherwise Strong Machine

I always look for a triple lifetime warranty on Treadmills (frame, motor, parts), but they are very few and only appear on the more expensive units. Poor warranties are detractors, but since good warranties are rare, they do not mean a particular machine is of no value.

And underpowered motors are kind of an icon thing, almost all icon machines seem to have a power problem which never seems to get fixed when the machines get updated. Besides these two common flaws, the 810TR is a very capable machine. It is generally enjoyable and a great value.
