Horizon T1201 Treadmill Review

Horizon fitness is known as not only being one of the most prolific brands, it is also known as being a value driven brand. The T1201 stands as horizon’s top of the line treadmill, not an excessively feature filled top of the line machine, but the top of Horizon’s treadmill line all the same.

The Horizon T1201 treadmill offers a list of improvements over Horizon fitness’ other treadmills including a longer warranty and better construction than you will see on most other Horizon treadmills. This is all delivered at a price point which still keeps this Horizon Fitness Treadmill well within the price range of the average consumer. Horizon has aimed to produce a quality machine in the T1201 and focuses on high end construction as well as increased warranty to do so.

A 3 zone variable cushioning system is employed by the T1201 which allows users to define how firm the belt should feel at stride entry, during stride, and when leaving the belt. This allows for reduced impact while maintaining a solid step while moving through each footfall. To add an element of entertainment, the T1201 has an IPOD dock. the ipod dock allows for MP3 input as well as allows an IPOD to charge during workouts.

A feature many other machines don’t have is the T1201′s choice of colors, electric black, cobalt, slate and salsa.

Top Of Its Line At a Value Driven Price

When it is said that this machine is the top of the line, the phrase is only referring to the Horizon fitness treadmill line. This machine does indeed lack a number of key features which would make this machine competitive with even midrange machines in the top of the line brands of Precor, Sole, and Smooth Fitness. That being said, the T1201 delivers on Horizon’s promise to produce a quality machine and a value driven price.

Although 2.5 hp is usually considered too little power on a 60×20 belt, on this machine it provides adequate power to make this machine fairly enjoyable for lighter users at mild to moderate paces. As with most Horizon treadmills, as well as most low cost treadmills, stability does not usually hold up as pace is increased for heavier users. Stability and a smooth and enjoyable use can be assured for lighter users at a moderate pace but can not be expected for heavier users at full speed.

At $1300 a 60″ x 20″ belt is a surprise but the lack of some nicer features is not. A limited array of programs and lack of a many comfort features is to be expected with with cost focused machines, even at the top of the line. The lack of features does not take away from a quality walking and jogging experience on a large belt build to handle taller users who find other belts too short.

A Budget Machine Built For Larger Users

The T1201 does has a much stiffer and thicker frame than Horizon’s lesser models and a quality warranty, but lacks the features which would allow this machine to stack up against other top of the line machines.

The Horizon T1201 treadmill is enjoyable, smooth, and quiet but lacks the ability to allow me to get to my top speed without feeling my motion transfered to the machine. A treadmill that can be enjoyed by most individuals but without the features expected at the top of a treadmill line.
