Epic Treadmills still have a large following today since its
products have been selling very well. The
treadmills are decent
enough as they are priced just right for a low to mid-range
product.
Icon has made it a policy to share the same components and features
between its different brands thereby it keeps the cost low and affordable.
You won't expect much in terms of value since they don't offer the same
ruggedness and solid construction found in other treadmills like
ProForm and Smooth for example.
Icon Health and Fitness manufactures the Epic brand for many
retailers, the most recognized being, Costco.
Types of Epic Treadmills
-
Epic 450MX Treadmill
- Epic 600MX Treadmill
- Epic 800MX Treadmill
- Epic 425MX Treadmill
For a $1,000 treadmill, the specifications are quite good but
in
terms of value for money, Epic treadmill parts are of lower quality.
Don't get me wrong, but Epic treadmills are very good options for those
who are still trying to come into grips if treadmills are indeed for
them and are undecided yet to invest on a more expensive machine.
There were assembly flaws in 2004 and early 2005 that buyers
should
take note. In these incidents, Icon sent this official statement to its
Epic Treadmill buyers:
"Icon Health & Fitness., of Logan, Utah ("ICON) has
issued a product recall notice for the Epic T60 Treadmill. During
initial assembly the gas spring/shock can be damaged if the walking
platform is folded up and goes beyond the vertical position. This
action can cause the shock to contact the treadmill roller and be
damaged and could propel parts out.
The parts of the shock
could hit a bystander causing injury. ICON has received one report of a
minor ankle laceration, one report of punctured foot and five reports
of minor property damage."
Icon didn't place their reputation on the line and the matter
was
resolved promptly and all Epic owners were satisfied by the service
they received from the company.
The motor range start at 2.25HP for the entry level 450MX
model up
to a decent 3.0 HP in the 425MX. We noticed that the motors strain in
the spacious 55"x20" belts of the cheaper models. The decks are very
responsive and the cushioning met my expectations across the product
range.
Hard to beat
Epic Treadmills are a budget buy and for the price, this brand
is
hard to beat. The issues highlighted to build, construction, etc. are
not that visible to the average consumer and for many customers out
there, this brand is still a very good option and the models are well
worth considering. Since its features are of high quality, I would even
consider this machine if your budget does not exceed $1,000. Costco
offers bigger discounts online that would attract first-time buyers and
budget users.
